Service Learning
All students at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy are required to complete the required Service Learning Hours.  These hours must be completed at a non-profit organization during non-school hours.  All service learning hours must be completed in a community based non-profit organization.  These organizations do not make a profit from the services that they offer.

Job Shadowing
All 11th grade students are required to complete a maximum of 3 job shadow experiences.  Students will identify up to 3 places and people that they would like to shadow and together with the school to career office will arrange for a three to six hour visit (Approximate).
 Places of Service
Because the focus of the job shadowing activity is based on careers choices, a job shadowing assignment can be completed at any public, private, community based organization or industry.
 Dates
JOB SHADOWING ACTIVITIES – can occur any time including the school day beginning on September, 2007 through June, 2008.  Students will be encouraged to use the professional development early release dates to complete their assignments.

 Internship
Students must complete a 50 hours internship with any company.

 Marketing I/Entrepreneurship (NFTE Senior Internship)
12th grade students have the opportunity to complete the Senior Internship by successfully completing all of the components within the NFTE program.  To obtain full credit for your internship requirements students must do the following.
1.              Attendance
a.       Regular attendance to Marketing 1 class (no more than 5 absences).
b.      Attend all NFTE related activities including field trips, workshops.
2.                 
Business Plan
a.       Successfully complete, submit and be evaluated on the business plan.
b.      Receive a grade no less than a C on the business plan.
3.                 
Overall Grade
a.       You must receive an overall grade of 80% or above in the Marketing I class to receive internship credit.
4.       Internship Reflection Paper- Students must complete the reflection paper in          order to receive credit for the internship.
a.       In an one page essay, please respond to the following:
Describe your experience in the NFTE program.  Provide examples of the skills that you learned.  How can you use these skills in your future?  Why are these skills important to your chosen career field?  Please make mention of all parts of the program including.  The Class, Field Trips, Business Plan Development, and the Competition.
Return Essay by May 1st, 2008 to Mr. Serrano in room 235.

Senior Portfolio- Marketing 2
Senior Portfolio Overview
The Sport and Medical Sciences Academy Senior Portfolio serves as document for you to showcase your accomplishments thought your four years at SMSA.  All students must
successfully complete and submit a portfolio project to be considered for graduation from SMSA.  The portfolio will be assessed by the school to career coordinator and a team of
teachers at the end of the senior year.
The Process
You will be actively engaged in learning, producing, and arranging all of the documents and activities in the senior portfolio.  You will complete the following tasks that will help
you to produce an outstanding final product.
The Tasks
You will complete the following:
1. Research and Produce an entry level RESUME
2. Research and produce a GRADE LEVEL SUMMARY
3. Research and complete a WRITING SAMPLE
4. Research and obtain Letters of Recommendation
5. Collect any supporting documents (Awards, transcripts, etc)
6. Arrange and produce Bound Portfolio-
