Mission Statement:
The counseling department at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy is a designed comprehensive developmental program to help the students through the planning of a structured academic program for the students to reach their academic and social growth potential. Students will be able to participate in individual and in group meeting sessions with the purpose to:|
1. Identify their different career interests and aptitudes in the different vocational areas.
2. Expand the necessary interpersonal and communication skills needed to succeed in school and or at work.
3. Learn to understand the importance of becoming a functional member of the family, school and the community.
4. Learn the importance of appropriate decision making.
Our counseling program is an integral part of the educational program in which our students prepare themselves to become successful and significant members of society.

Counseling Department Services:
1. Registrar students and develop appropriate course schedules.
2. Evaluate transcripts of transfer students.
3. Change course schedules if needed for appropriate placement.
4. Review CMT and CAPT scores for appropriate placement or for Graduation requirement.
5. Guide students through PSAT’S and SAT’S registration process.
6. Provide individual and group counseling to the students.
7. Guide students through career goal planning.
8. Develop a post- secondary plan for all seniors.
9. Review college and scholarship applications.
10. Discuss with students the importance of maintaining a good academic record.
11. Offer available tutoring services in the school and the community.
12. Maintain good student records.
13. Organize parent conferences to discuss students’ progress.
14. Participate in Suspension Hearings, SST’S and PPT’S.
15. Refer students to the crisis team if necessary.
16. Participate on Awards and scholarship committees.
17. Refer students to appropriate academic programs.
18. Identify and host post-secondary Reps.
19. Organize Financial Aid workshops for parents and students.
20. Attend school counselor’s conferences.
21. Recommend remedial and or enrichment summer school programs.
22. Research information and or programs to help the students succeed in their future college endeavors.
23. Collaborate with school to career program.
