Sport and Medical Sciences Academy Student/Parent Compact

As a family (parent(s)/guardian(s) and student) we agree to the following terms regarding application, enrollment, and remaining at the Sport and Medical Sciences Academy. You should be aware that your acceptance of this disclosure is an indication that each of you agree and support the idea that in order for the Sport and Medical Sciences Academy to work for you, you have to give something beyond the “normal” expectations, and in return YOU will experience high levels of success.

Student agrees to:

  1. Attend our Open House Orientation on one of these dates: Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 6:00P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M., or Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 6:00P.M.
  2. Be serious about and actively pursue preparing for, applying to, and enrolling in college
  3. Attend school on a daily basis with no more than 10 absences within one school year
  4. Arrive to school on-time daily by 7:40 A.M.
  5. Adhere to the Hartford Public Schools’ and SMSA’s codes of discipline
  6. Attend mandatory after-school tutoring if grade(s) fall below a 65%
  7. Dedicate time outside of school daily to complete homework with the understanding that it is critical for college preparation
  8. Participate actively and appropriately in all classes
  9. Be dedicated to the themes of medical and sport sciences
  10. Wear the school uniform as specified in the student handbook at all times
  11. Demonstrate SMSA’s Four Core Beliefs: Dedication, Responsibility, Discipline, and Respect at all times

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) agree(s) to:

  1. Attend our Open House Orientation on one of these dates: Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 6:00P.M., Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M., or Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 6:00P.M.
  2. Monitor the child’s attendance nightly
  3. Monitor the child’s homework/grades nightly and sign weekly progress reports
  4. Provide the child with a quiet study environment
  5. Assure the child’s appropriate behavior at school
  6. Require the child to take challenging courses at school
  7. Attend parent information sessions regarding the child’s progress
  8. Purchase and maintain the child’s school uniform
  9. Support the integration of the themes of medical and sport sciences
  10. Support the child’s in the pursuit of a college education
  11. Support SMSA’s Four Core Beliefs: Dedication, Responsibility, Discipline, and Respect
